The UK government and Babcock International, firm responsible for leading the design process of Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier, are said to be actively engaging with their South Korean counterparts.
They are apparently offering transfer of technology & technical skills in regard to STOVL aircraft carrier design and F-35B integration / operation.
South Korea is currently pursuing the LPX-II program, which will result in a 40,000 tons (full displacement) light aircraft carrier capable of operating F-35B and helicopters.
Since South Korea does not have past experience with aircraft carrier construction & operation, Babcock is offering to be its partner.
It is unknown how South Korea responsed to offer made by the UK government and Babcock International.
The overall direction of LPX-II is still undecided, as various factions are calling for larger CATOBAR carrier or nuclear-powered attack submarine instead.
Babcock International is also involved in South Korea’s KSS-III indigenous attack submarine program.
