Charlie Puth appreciates the recognition from Taylor Swift!

On Friday, May 3, Puth, 32, teased a new song on TikTok just days after responding to Swift, 34, naming him in a song on her new The Tortured Poets Department album.

“These last couple weeks have been really crazy for obvious reasons, but I wanted to share something with you,” the “See You Again” artist wrote over a clip of himself singing along to his new song.

“This is a song I wrote about my friend called ‘Hero.’ Sometimes I get a little nervous being overly honest in my music which is why this was sitting on my hard drive for awhile,” Puth continued. “But I think someone out there was giving me a sign that I needed to release it.”

“So… I declare ‘Hero’ will be out everywhere on May 24th as the first single of my new album. Thank you for your support… you know who you are,” Puth added.

On Swift’s 11th studio album, which was released on April 19, she name-checks the musician in the title track.

In the song, Swift playfully mocks a former flame about his love for vintage typewriters and likening himself to legendary poets.

“You smokеd, then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” she sings on the track, making a reference to the “We Don’t Talk Anymore” singer.

Swifties caught the reference and immediately flocked to Puth’s TikTok comment section when he previewed “Hero.”

“We declare that Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” one person wrote. Another added, “You look a lot like Charlie Puth. He should be a bigger artist. 🖤”

Pointing out Puth’s own lyrics, a fan argued, “‘you know who you are’ is an iconic reference 🫡.”

Before releasing the “Hero” teaser on Friday, he reacted to Swift’s mention via social media on April 28 by reposting Swift’s reaction to The Tortured Poets Department‘s success among fans.

“My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album,” Swift wrote, alongside a gallery of behind-the-scenes photos taken during the album’s recording.

“2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed,” the singer continued. “I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough 🤍.”
