KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Millions of Taylor Swift fans stayed up late, or were up early, to stream the megastar’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.

They were rewarded when the artist dropped a surprise double album including 31 songs at 2 a.m. The drop included a message from Swift on X.

Along with the new songs, many fans hoped to pick out hidden references to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in the new music.

They weren’t disappointed.

In the song “The Alchemy,” fans found multiple references to football. Some fans online speculate Swift penned the song for Kelce. Others believe Swift wrote the song before the two stars started dating.

Either way, the football references are there.

“So when I touch down, call the amateurs,” she sang.

Fans were also treated to lyrics like “On the benches, we’ve been on a winning streak,” and, “Shirt’s off and your friends lift you up over their heads, beer sticking to the floor, cheers chanting ‘cause they said there was no chance. Trying to be the greatest in the league, where’s the trophy?”

The new song isn’t the first time Swift has referenced Kelce in a song. She changed the lyrics and sang “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs” during a November concert in Argentina that Kelce attended last year.

The two started dating in September and have traveled extensively to support each other.

The Tortured Poets Department dropped at midnight and is Swift’s 11th album. The unexpected double album also makes it Swift’s longest album.

Time will quickly tell how successful “The Tortured Poets Department” is, at least initially. Swift will chase her own record on Friday. According to Spotify, “Midnights” became its most-streamed album in a single day with 184.6 million streams when it debuted. Swift also broke the record for most-streamed artist in a single day on Spotify with 228 million streams.

“Midnights” was also the biggest album of all time by a female artist in Apple Music history by first-day and first-week streams worldwide, according to the streaming service.
