For the second year in a row, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds decided to forgo attending the Met Gala. Instead, they opted to spend the evening at home rather than on the prestigious red carpet. While there was speculation that Lively might make an appearance after attending a Tiffany & Co. event in New York last week, she ultimately chose to make that her standout fashion moment for early May.In 2020, the actress humorously remarked on her Instagram about her coordination with the Met Gala carpet over the years: “…when the carpet matches the Blakes. Met Ball 2018, 2017, 2016.” Gigi Hadid chimed in with a playful comment, asking, “How far in advance do you have to tell Anna [Wintour] what color to make the carpet?”

Lively’s last attendance at the gala was in 2022, where she held the role of co-chair. Embracing the theme of “Gilded Glamour,” she graced the event in an exquisite Atelier Versace gown adorned with a tiara, complemented by her signature Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Lively is famously her own stylist, a role she embraces even for major events like the Met Gala. Speaking in March 2018 about her decision to take on this responsibility, she shared with Women’s Wear Daily, “I love design and I love fashion, and it’s a way to be creative. In my job, I get to be creative, but it’s over a period of time and so many other people are involved, whereas this is a beginning, middle, and end, and I get to be creative and there’s an end date in the near future. It’s the same reason why I like doing my friends’ hair and makeup or cooking—you get to be creative and finish it. Whereas with my job, you do it and then two years later it’s finished. It probably goes back to the control issues; it’s like, ‘Okay, I did it, I completed it, it’s done!’”
