She said, “I say Texas Tech is my school, and so I argue with any other Texas college team that you know wreck ’em. I love to give them a little trouble. I just like to do that.” Her comments show that she has embraced Texas Tech as her school and enjoys engaging in friendly banter with fans of other Texas college teams. Patrick’s father had always believed in his son’s potential and sent him to a prestigious university.

Randi shared, “We went on a series of campus visits, but Texas Tech was never on the radar.” But after just one visit, Patrick was convinced that Texas Tech was the right place for him. Mamma Mahomes said, “I knew his heart and soul was there.” Patrick was making records with his passing numbers at his university. He got the No. 398 prospect rank in his batch. It also tagged him as the No. 29 pro-style QB prospect and the No. 82 player in Texas.

However, his mother had different dreams for her son and wasn’t shy about sharing her thoughts. When the coaches at Texas Tech asked Randi how she liked the school, she was honest. She told them, “I don’t think the school’s good enough. I was like my son is good. Like he is so good, no offense.”

The Mahomes family has deep roots in Texas. They visit their home state every off season, embracing the traditions and history that define their lives.
