Liam Neeson in the movie The Commuter(Photo: STUDIOCANAL)The Naked Gun remake, starring Liam Neeson and from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, is due out in 2025 – and yes, we’re right.

According to a report from Variety , The Naked Gun will be released on July 18, 2025.

First announced in 2022, Neeson was tapped to helm the project – a remake of the ’80s police comedy series, with Leslie Nielsen playing bumbling detective Frank Drebin while trying to solve a crime. case with just his badge, a gun and a script full of double meanings.

The Naked Gun series proved a huge success, spawning two sequels, 1991’s The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and 1994’s Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult. The series has grossed nearly $500 million worldwide.

Neeson brought the dry Leslie Nielsen humor needed to The Naked Gun, joking to People (The TV Show!) that ‘it could have either ended my career or taken it in another direction. I really do not know.’

Neeson’s current status as an everyday action hero also helps him showcase his comedic abilities in The Naked Gun. That could put him in a similar career direction to Nielsen, who found acclaim in more ‘serious’ films like The Poseidon Adventure before moving into comedy.

Besides MacFarlane and Neeson, The Naked Gun was also entrusted to an experienced filmmaking team. The film will be directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, who worked on Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
