Today (May 31), the singer-songwriter took to social media to share a clip of herself singing Eminem’s hit 2002 song from the 8 Mile soundtrack, recorded on her mobile phone. The cover, backed by mellow piano keys and a bass guitar sees SZA singing the first verse, chorus and a portion of the song’s second verse before it cuts off.
Captioning the video, SZA clarified that the cover was recorded to help her mental health, and will not be part of any upcoming releases. She also wrote: “U ever just cover Eminem on some tender shit for feels?”

The cover was uploaded onto the singer’s Instagram page about an hour before Eminem released his new single, ‘Houdini’. Packaged with an accompanying music video in which the rapper recreated scenes from his 2002 music video ‘Without Me’, the clip also featured cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson and more.
‘Houdini’ serves as the first single for the rapper’s upcoming album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, which has yet to receive a release date but is expected to arrive sometime this Summer.
The cover also comes after SZA shared an update earlier this year on her upcoming deluxe album ‘Lana’. The songs making up ‘Lana’ were originally intended for a deluxe edition of her 2022 album ‘SOS’, but the project took on a life of its own and will now be a separate release. It was first announced in September and was originally earmarked for a late 2023 release but has since been delayed indefinitely.
‘SOS’ released in 2022 with a glowing five-star review from NME‘s Rhian Daly, who wrote: “‘I’m making the best album of my life for this next album,’ SZA told Flaunt in 2020 and ‘SOS’ is just that – a phenomenal record that barely puts a foot wrong and raises the bar even higher than she set it before.”
