Charles Barkley called out Patrick Beverley and predicted strict action against him from the league. The Milwaukee Bucks point guard engaged in a heated argument with an Indiana Pacers fan seated behind the Bucks bench. The veteran player not only just verbally argued with the fan but also violently threw the ball at him. In the act, the ball seemed to have hit a lady on the head.
In response to the ugly courtside behavior, Barkley criticized the 35-year-old on live TV. Sitting alongside the Inside Guys during the post-game analysis, Chuck said, “He hit a lady on the head. He’s gonna get suspended. Man, he hit that lady in the head. It don’t matter if he was tryna hit, you can’t hit no lady… Listen, I have done stupid stuff and I got criticized. That just wrong, he gonna get suspended for that.”
Patrick Beverley has caught the public attention for various reasons. Some of the incidents were even considered hilarious. For instance, in the 2022-23 season, the veteran point guard approached a ref with a camera to argue for a ‘no call’ and the ref ejected him without even giving him a second thought. While fans circulated the video and churned out hilarious reactions, tonight’s incident didn’t sit well with the hoops community.
Chuck expected the league to suspend the star for the act. However, the star’s journey in this season came to an end after tonight’s game. Importantly, Bev’s next season with the Bucks remains uncertain as he lands in free agency. In the last 5 seasons, Beverley has suited up for 6 different franchises. Given his decent performance with the Bucks late in the season, the Wisconsin side might retain him in the off-season.
On the other hand, as Charles Barkley claimed to have done “stupid stuff” during his career, let’s take a closer look at it.
Charles Barkley and his “Stupid stuff”
While Barkley seemed disappointed with Patrick Beverley’s antics, he himself has engaged in a similar action and paid a hefty price for it too. In 1991, the Phoenix Suns legend engaged in a heated argument with a fan, as the fan reportedly hurled at him with racial slurs. In response, Barkley verbally abused and spat at him, unfortunately, the spit fell on the girl next to the fan. Following the incident, the league slapped him with a $10,000 fine and a one-game suspension.
And, a year later, he got suspended again for repeated arguing with a referee and vaulting over a scorer’s table during a game against the New York Knicks. Over the course of his career, the NBA legend has paid a lot of fines. A Washington Post article revealed that the star player had paid around $140,000 as a fine since 1989.
Barkley indeed has done a lot of stupid stuff during his playing days and rightfully called the players from the current generation who have crossed the line. The 61-year-old didn’t leave Ja Morant over his gun violence controversy, as he went at him on live TV. Eventually, the league slapped the star with a 25-game suspension.
