NBA Stars Vote On ‘Most Overrated’ Player In League
NBA stars have a lot of opinions about their fellow players, and this week they made those opinions known.
The Athletic does an annual poll where they ask guys around the league various questions.
One of the most polarizing ones, always, tends to be who they view as the most overrated player in the NBA.
This week, Sam Amick and Josh Robbins revealed who earned that dubious title in 2024.
“Our NBA staff interviewed a whopping 142 players from March 5 through April 11. That’s nearly a third of the entire league, with unfiltered views of stars and role players alike. And yes, all 30 teams had a voice,” they wrote.
So who do players in the NBA view as the most overrated player? Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jordan Poole of the Washington Wizards, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, Dillon Brooks of the Houston Rockets and James Harden of the Los Angeles Clippers rounded out the top five.
This poll, interestingly enough, sits in stark contrast to what Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant just said about Gobert and his impact.
“Rudy’s gotten (much) better at guarding perimeters, guarding posts, guarding the rim,” Durant said this week.
“So you can’t just throw ‘em in actions expecting them to just give in. I think we’ll be strategic with what we do and make the ball move, get stops, and go out and run as well. We’ve gotta be cautious of putting guys in actions and realizing they still have an all-world, Hall of Fame defensive player and guys around him that can guard the perimeter too.”
Apparently other guys around the NBA don’t feel that way, though.
Will 2024 mark the year that Gobert proves his haters wrong and wins his first ever NBA championship? Time will tell.
