In 1988, Julia Roberts catapulted to stardom with her role in the dramedy Satisfaction, alongside Liam Neeson and Justine Bateman. From there, she solidified her reign as the queen of romantic comedies, gracing films like Pretty Woman and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
Her portrayal in the biopic Erin Brockovich even earned her an Academy Award, cementing her status as a Hollywood icon.
Despite having an extensive portfolio of nearly 70 movies and TV appearances throughout her career, Julia Roberts remains steadfast in her refusal to engage in certain projects.
One notable example is her persistent decline to host Saturday Night Live, despite having received several invitations over the years. More recently, Julia disclosed her decision not to join the cast of American Horror Story alongside her niece, Emma Roberts. Her rationale behind this choice is both reasonable and understandable.
Julia Roberts Said She’d Never Appear In American Horror Story
Julia Roberts shares a strong friendship with Ryan Murphy, the creator of American Horror Story. Despite their enduring bond and her niece Emma Roberts’ significant roles in multiple seasons of the series, the renowned actress remains steadfast in her decision to stay away from AHS.
Surprisingly, her choice is driven by a rather relatable fear: she’s easily spooked.
Julia Roberts told The Things:
“You know everybody divides the world into two groups? My two groups are people that like to be scared and people who don’t like to be scared. The first season of American Horror Story came out and the way that I took my kids to school then, there was a traffic light that I always hit red and there was a poster for American Horror Story right at that traffic light. I called Ryan and I said, ‘I’m just going to tell you right now—I don’t think I can watch your show.
I can’t support you. I don’t think I can do it.”
While numerous celebrities have graced the screen in American Horror Story, Julia Roberts adamantly resists the temptation, regardless of pleas from Ryan Murphy or Emma Roberts. She prefers to steer clear of such projects, shedding light on her consistent absence from the realm of horror films throughout her career.
Julia Roberts Hasn’t Even Watched The Show
Julia Roberts has made it clear to Ryan Murphy and Emma Roberts that she won’t be watching American Horror Story either. She recounted a conversation with her niece where she expressed her reluctance, citing a disturbing scene in the show.
Fortunately, both Ryan Murphy and her niece, Emma Roberts, respect her decision and don’t press her about it. In an Entertainment Tonight interview, Emma disclosed her attempts to persuade her aunt to watch American Horror Story, albeit with little success.
American Horror Story is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
