Johnny Depp’s career has been one that has been surrounded by controversy. Long before Amber Heard entered the picture, several different activities were a part of his lifestyle that raised more than a few eyebrows. Despite this, there is more than a little evidence of what a good person he is. While there were several attempts to discredit this, the actor has proved time and time again where his morals lie, with him standing true to what he believes in.

Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson shared a very close friendship. The actor played the author in his 1998 adaptation Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and his portrayal of the complicated psyche of Thompson made many think that Depp understood him on a level that very few have been able to. The actor had been a fan of his work long before working on the adaptation, mentioning that they were as close as two people could be. That was until Thompson passed away in 2005.
