Movie superstar Mark Wahlberg has found a home in Australia befitting Hollywood royalty.
Wahlberg will be in Sydney for the next few months as he films Play Dirty alongside Tony Shalhoub, Rosa Salazar and Dermot Mulroney.
And for an entertainer who is estimated to have a net worth of $US400m ((A$609.26m), he has chosen Australia’s richest postcode Point Piper to call home.
Surrounded by the glistening waters of Sydney Harbour on three sides, Point Piper is the most wanted address in Australia, where the likes of ex-PM Malcolm Turnbull, Atlassian tech guru Scott Farquhar and former Aussie home loans boss John Symond rest their heads.
It’s the home of Australia’s richest street – Wolseley Rd, where the median house price is $23,755,000, according to PropTrack – and it’s now for Wahlberg home for the next few months.
The 52-year-old star of The Departed has temporarily moved into the three-storey house that boasts 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and 7 parking spaces, that could be worth as much as $100m.
Sitting on 1238 sqm, the home was sold for $51m in April 2020. Given the dramatic rise in top end prices and demand for premium Sydney homes since then, the home could sell for as much as double its previous transfer price, if it was to hit the market today.
The home could rent for as much as $50,000 a week.
“I’m not the owner of the house, but it’s been cool,” Wahlberg told The Daily Telegraph.
“The only difficult part is that I’m so far away from my family.”
Featuring Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House views, large plots and direct waterfront access Point Piper has long held the title as Australia’s poshest road, appearing to the uber wealthy both here and overseas.
“Positioned on the very tip of Australia’s most exclusive peninsula, this breathtaking contemporary waterfront residence was designed by leading architect Michael Dysart, with an additional transformation in 2016 to exacting specifications,” read the marketing material for the home when it last went to market.
“Capturing uninterrupted north-easterly harbour views across Shark Island towards the Manly skyline, the wonderfully private residence is surrounded by Myles Baldwin designed gardens with towering palms, giving the property a resort-like feel.
“The home is crowned by a spectacular rooftop terrace, with multiple entertaining areas, barbecue, wet bar and iconic views. An equally stunning waterfront area features a private deepwater jetty, gas-heated pool and covered alfresco entertaining area with a retractable awning, barbecue, fire pits and sunken seating.
“Exuding a sense of sanctuary, the home’s expanses of glass harness the outlook while the vast living spaces open to a rainforest-like internal courtyard for a calming ambience. Undoubtedly one of Sydney’s most distinguished trophy homes.”
