Liam Neeson is set to star opposite Stranger Things star Joe Keery in a new thriller about a killer virus.

‘Cold Storage’ is about a virus stored in a government facility that gets out and wreaks havoc on the world.

Filming has begun on location in Italy and Morocco on the dark comedy sci-fi action flick with Smile star Sosie Bacon joining the Co Antrim-born star in the cast which also includes Georgina Campbell (Barbarian).

The Crown star and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville is in final talks to join, according to US film and entertainment publication, Deadline.

The film is from Zombieland producer Gavin Polone and was written and produced by Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny screenwriter David Koepp.

Koepp commented: “Cold Storage has everything I’d want to see in a movie — it’s scary, funny, exhilarating, surprising, and riotously entertaining.

“Gavin, Jonny, and I have huge ambitions for this, and are so excited to get cracking with our partners at Studiocanal.”

The film will chart a deadly micro-organism that will stop at nothing to spread, according to the publication.

The fate of humanity rests on a retired bioterror operative and two unlikely heroes employed in the facility – who are caught in a race against time to destroy the organism and save mankind.

The news comes as The Taken actor, 70, from Ballymena marked a huge milestone this year – with his 100th movie.

His latest film, Marlowe, which marks 100 in his wide-spanning catalog, sees him once again in an action role, playing Raymond Chandler’s iconic detective Philip Marlowe, who is hired to find heiress Clare Cavendish’s (Diane Kruger) missing former lover.
