Tonight in Los Angeles, Katy Perry hit the 2017 Grammys red carpet with a head-turning beauty reveal—she had taken her newly blonde hair to a bolder, brighter platinum for the first time in her life.
“It’s like the last color in all of the Pantone books that I haven’t done, so it’s my last resort,” she told Ryan Seacrest ahead of the show.
True, the famously chameleonic singer is known for her experimental approach to color—electric green and lavender ombré ends, a blunt sky blue bob, pink Marcel waves—yet this particular shade of silvery white is charting new ground.
Perry was first spotted with her newly blanched shade a few weeks back. Tonight, in her first red-carpet event with the lightened-up shade, she debuted lengths that were carefully bleached a few shades paler still and razored into a shoulder-grazing lob, then set into easy waves.
Perry maintained a sharp contrast with her color by keeping her brows dark and meticulously shaped.
When paired with a peach-colored swath of pigment on the lids and another Perry signature (a thick smattering of false, doll-like lashes), the look felt like a fresh start that stayed true to her beauty roots. Consider it a red-carpet makeover that hit all the right notes.
