The USS Zumwalt (DDG-100) is a class of guided-missile destroyers in the United States Navy. The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with a variety of weapons systems to provide multi-mission capabilities. Here are some of the weapons that the USS Zumwalt and its class-mates use:
1. Rim-fired guns: The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with two 155mm Advanced Gun Systems (AGS) designed to fire Long-Range Land-Attack Projectile (LRLAP) shells, which can strike targets at a range of over 100 km (62 miles). The guns are also designed to fire kinetic energy projectiles (KEPs) for anti-surface warfare.
2. Tomahawk Land-Attack Missiles (TLAMs): The Zumwalt-class destroyers can launch TLAMs, which are land-attack missiles that can strike targets at a range of over 1,000 km (621 miles).
3. Harpoon Anti-Surface Missiles: The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with Harpoon anti-surface missiles, which can engage surface targets at a range of up to 124 km (77 miles).
4. Standard Missile-6 (SM-6): The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with SM-6, a long-range anti-air and anti-surface missile that can engage airborne targets at a range of over 300 km (186 miles).
5. Phalanx CIWS: The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS), which are rapid-fire guns that can engage air and surface targets at close range.
6. Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM): The Zumwalt-class destroyers are equipped with ESSM, a medium-range anti-air missile that can engage airborne targets at a range of up to 100 km (62 miles).
These weapons systems provide the USS Zumwalt and its class-mates with a wide range of capabilities to support naval operations, including surface warfare, anti-air warfare, and land-attack missions.
