SUMMARY
Gerard Butler is reportedly set to star in the action/thriller film “Empire State,” where he plays a Navy SEAL turned firefighter tasked with saving hostages in the Empire State Building during an attack.
Fans have noticed a familiar pattern in Butler’s action films but are still excited about ‘Empire State’ due to Butler’s ability to bring freshness and entertainment to familiar themes.
After performing epically in quite a few romantic comedies until 2010 and winning the hearts of fangirls worldwide, Gerard Butler seems to have switched lanes permanently into the action genre. Well, he is acing it in that too, considering how the 54-year-old actor is once again reportedly all set to return to the big screens with Empire State, his next major action-thriller project.

But while he is still performing as brilliantly as ever in this respective genre, viewers can’t help but notice a similar pattern in a lot of Butler’s movies of the action/thriller/adventure themes. That being said, after hearing reports of this very upcoming action movie of his, a lot of fans seem to know already what to expect to see from it!
Gerard Butler’s Next Big Project Set to be Empire State?
After starring in multiple fan-favorite peak-action projects like Olympus Has Fallen and Law Abiding Citizen, Butler is now reportedly in talks to take on the comedy/action/thriller Empire State as his next big project, according to the latest exclusive reports from Deadline.
This movie will reportedly be helmed by filmmaker Christian Gudegast and producer Marc Butan is also reported to be connected to it. As for the script, Deadline reports it to have been developed by screenwriters S. Craig Zahler and Brian Tucker.

This film would be about the Empire State Building and would star Gerard Butler as a Navy SEAL turned firefighter Rhett, who has to put aside his relationship troubles and work with Tactical Officer Dani to save the hostages and the skyscraper when it is attacked by a military contractor.
So, it would seemingly be an action movie with not only full-fledged fight scenes but also with traces of comedy as the two leads deal with their personal relationship matters on the way? Sounds like a genuinely interesting piece of work.
However, fans seem to know already what will unfold in front of them when this film arrives. Why? Because Butler appears to have ostensibly switched to a particular action lane, and judging from the experience of his previous films, it is more or less predictable what he would bring about next.
Butler in Olympus Has Fallen.
For instance, his Has Fallen film series is the perfect example of this, considering how this action trilogy stars him as an ex-Secret Service agent who has to rescue and protect the prez and the people after Olympus and London fall into attacks by terrorists.
That said, multiple fans have already figured out what is in store for them with Butler’s upcoming project about the attack on the famous landmark. And yet, they aren’t bored, because whatever the 300 heartthrob actor brings about is nothing short of some peak entertainment.

Butler in London Has Fallen.
While a part of the fandom is claiming this movie seems too familiar to a lot of previous action-rescue films created before, another part is claiming that they will still watch the movie, no matter what, as long as Butler is in it.
Why? Well, simply because the 54-year-old actor has proven one too many times that he can make the tables turn in the most remarkable manner and make you remember it all. This is why the other side of the fandom is reacting this way on X:
Needless to say, Gerard Butler has quite a reputation for making even a seemingly rebooted storyline feel like a better approach to the original storyline, so these responses are only understandable. That said, it would be quite entertaining to see how this one turns out to be.
