“The Mystery of the Lighthouse” is based on a true story that happened in 1900.

In the plot, three men embark on work for their month-long stay at an isolated lighthouse in Scotland. Thomas (Peter Mullan), James (Gerard Butler) and Donald (O’Connor Swindle) arrive at the site and during maintenance work on the island they find a body on one of the slopes.
Donald goes down to see if he is alive, but ends up attacked by the man, so Donald has no choice but to kill him.
However, next to the mysterious man there is a chest, which the three rescue and take to the lighthouse. Thomas, the oldest of them all, at first decides not to open the chest, but ends up giving in. The three find gold bars and decide after some discussion to keep the treasure, but plan not to tell anyone and only enjoy the value 1 year after they return to dry land.
However, something will change the story, when a boat with two men arrive in search of the dead sailor and consequently wanting to know about the chest. From then on, the two groups will fight to try to survive.

The film also has a strong emotional and ethical appeal with debates about what to do about the treasure they found. In addition to the consequences that this brought, such as deaths resulting from the dispute over it.
