Night Has Fallen producer Les Weldon offers a cautious response concerning the future of Gerard Butler’s action movie franchise with some hope.
SUMMARY
The future of the Has Fallen franchise depends on the success of Night Has Fallen, but the movie is facing significant delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and potential production challenges.
Producer Les Weldon suggests that if Night Has Fallen meets expectations, two more movies could follow in quick succession. However, if it fails to perform well, the franchise could be in danger.
To keep the universe alive, regardless of the movie franchise’s status, a TV show titled Paris Has Fallen is in the works, featuring Mathieu Kassovitz as protection officer Vincent.
A producer is finally offering some insight into the future of Night Has Fallen and the rest of the franchise. The Has Fallen movies began in 2013 with Olympus Has Fallen and was followed by London Has Fallen in 2016 and Angel Has Fallen in 2019.
Olympus was a smash hit with $170 million at the box office on a $70 million budget, and the other films have been just as successful. Despite establishing a pattern of a new movie every three years, the upcoming Night has been experiencing serious delays. After so much time away from theaters, the future of Night Has Fallen appears uncertain.
In an interview with Collider, however, producer Les Weldon stepped up to alleviate any concerns. Should Night succeed, Weldon expects another two movies to come in relatively quick succession. If it does not meet expectations, Has Fallen could be in danger. Check out Weldon’s quote below:
Ooh, again, another three unless the next one does… you know. It’s the same as Expendables. We need to do the next one, and if that works as well as the previous three, then anything is on the table, really.
The Future Of The Has Fallen Universe Explained
The Has Fallen franchise depends on the success of Night Has Fallen, which makes the upcoming sequel incredibly important. Despite how relevant it may be to the franchise’s future, production has not been proceeding as expected.
At the moment, actors cannot work on set, cannot be cast in movies, and cannot do any promotional work. These changes mean that Night is awaiting the end of the strikes before it can continue, just as the rest of Hollywood.
The strikes, combined with the introduction of the COVID-19 pandemic, are among many potential reasons for the delays. Gerard Butler’s Has Fallen lawsuit could also be a potential reason. Butler alleged that producers underpaid him for his role in the franchise, which could be delaying production.
Regardless of the status of the movie franchise, there is another medium that can keep the universe alive through television. Paris Has Fallen will be a TV show starring Mathieu Kassovitz as protection officer Vincent. Even if Night Has Fallen fails to reach the heights of previous movies at the box office, Paris could still keep the franchise alive on the small screen.
