Somehow, Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone movies make Christmas worthwhile for generations. But, although the actor turned into a star and bagged millions while offering a cult classic to the audiences, it all came to Culkin at a cost that almost crippled him in a heartbreaking way.
Macaulay Culkin Can’t Watch the Fan-Favorite Home Alone Movies
While Macaulay Culkin offered his fans and audiences the 90s cult classic holiday blockbuster Home Alone, he finds it difficult to enjoy his films. Just like most other actors, even Culkin revealed how he struggles to watch his holiday movies without cringing a bit. Recalling his childhood performance and appearing on The Ellen Show, the actor discussed his issue.
Home Alone (1990)
Revealing that he can’t watch his iconic movies quite the same as everyone else, Macaulay Culkin noted his struggles. Although he finds it flattering when fans and friends ask him to watch and enjoy the movie together, Culkin struggles to sit through his acting. The actor claimed that he often recalls things from behind the scenes while watching his movies.

“It’s background radiation at Christmas time. I’ve had people who want to watch it with me, which is both flattering and creepy. When I’m watching it I’m remembering that day on the set, like how I was hiding my Pepsi behind the couch. I can’t watch it the same way other people do.”
Having core memories associated with the movie, Macaulay Culkin told Ellen DeGeneres how he recalls his memories from the set rather than enjoying the bits.
Macaulay Culkin Serves a Heartbreaking Price for the Home Alone
Well, that’s not all for the actor. Apparently, while his appearance and performance in Home Alone bagged him millions, turning him into a renowned child actor, Macaulay Culkin paid the price for his appearance in a holiday film. Discussing the heartbreaking price he still pays for his role, Culkin noted how he avoids fans during holidays.

Rising to fame after his award-winning performance in Home Alone back in 1990, Macaulay Culkin turned into an overnight child actor who became synonymous with the holiday season. Further, appearing in the film’s sequel – Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, the actor faced difficulty in going outside during the holidays, because of it. He revealed how people still come up to him and request him to do the classic shocked face.
Macaulay Culkin still pays the price for his appearance in a holiday movie
“I definitely don’t [go out of the house at Christmas and Thanksgiving.] It’s my season. It’s Macaulay season. I try to go out less and less around that time of year.”
Apart from paying the price of staying at home during Christmas and Thanksgiving to avoid fans from bothering him, Macaulay Culkin also suffered a short-lived career as a child actor. But, after taking a hiatus from the movie business to focus on his education and family, Culkin returned as an adult in the film industry after eight years.
