John Wick 5 has been in the works since the fourth film ended, but faced challenges due to the recent WGA strikes
SUMMARY
One fan theory suggests that the lack of situational awareness is due to the video game world and the society of assassins being out in the open.
Director Chad Stahelski admits that the idea of civilians not reacting to deaths started as a joke.
Lionsgate Motion Pictures has confirmed that several spin-off projects are in the making, including the fifth installment of the main storyline.
The John Wick franchise, starring Keanu Reeves in the titular role, is known for its exhilarating action sequences and memorable moments.
But it’s hard to ignore the fact that sometimes the scenes appear far from reality. One such aspect in the film is the behavior of the civilians in the film, who mostly seem oblivious to people being killed next to them.
Keanu Reeves in and as John Wick
Many fans have even called out John Wick makers about the civilians in the film who barely react to people getting killed around them or even stumbling around badly wounded. Fans have complained that the films lack situational awareness.
John Wick Fan Theory Explains What Could Be The Reason
Fan theories are an integral aspect of fandom culture. They range from predicting plot twists to proposing hidden connections between characters.
While some theories align perfectly with the source material, others are mostly playful conjectures. Now, one John Wick fan has tried justifying the lack of situational awareness among civilians in the film.
Keanu Reeves in a still from the John Wick franchise
The fan theory suggests that John Wick films are similar to a video game world, where, unlike NPCs in games such as GTA or SF, they don’t react. People just continue doing their thing unless something affects them physically.
The second theory suggests that the society of assassins is out in the open, and people are used to it. The theory is backed by the proof, as there’s a park scene where it’s revealed that everyone present was an assassin.
Besides, one random cop in the first John Wick film recognizes John Wick and the same thing happens with the radio station assassin in the fourth film.
Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick films, admitted in his interview on The Art of Action that the lack of situational awareness among civilians started as a joke, but they chose to go ahead with the idea. Well, in a film that has ninjas on bikes, it doesn’t sound far-fetched.
John Wick 5 Confirmed With Several Spin-off Projects
While many would’ve thought that Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick series might have concluded after the fourth installment, Lionsgate Motion Pictures has revealed that several projects are in the making in the John Wick universe.
It includes the fifth installment of the main storyline. The news might be shocking to many, especially considering the end of the fourth film.

During a recent earnings call by Lionsgate, Joe Drake, the Chairperson of Lionsgate Motion, confirmed the news (via ComicBook). Drake revealed that the team has been working on the fifth installment since the fourth film ended.
However, they faced some challenges during the recent WGA strikes. Now that the strikes are over, the company has decided to reintroduce the project alongside other spin-off series like the recent The Continental.
