Netflix viewers are saying that a 2019 Liam Neeson action flick is ‘a lot darker’ than they remembered.
In case you missed it, Cold Pursuit – or ‘Taken on ice’ as it’s rather spectacularly been dubbed – has landed on the streaming platform where it quickly made its way into the most watched list.
Cold Pursuit is a remake of 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance (Kraftidioten), which centres on snowplough driver Nelson ‘Nels’ Coxman (played by Neeson), who sets out to seek revenge of a group of drug dealers who killed his son (played by Neeson’s real-life son Micheál Richardson).
In doing so, Nels ends up setting off a turf war between two rival drug cartels. The film also stars Jurassic Park‘s Laura Den as Nel’s wife Grace.
A brief synopsis from Netflix explains: “In this icy revenge thriller, Nels Coxman sets out on a deadly rampage as he tracks down members of a Denver drug cartel who he believes killed his son, Kyle.”

So basically, Neeson in a revenge plot action movie. Honestly, what more can you ask for?
But it seems viewers who watched the flick when it was first released are a bit shocked while giving it a rewatch after noticing it’s a ‘bit darker’ than they remembered.
Another commented: “Cold Pursuit is the funniest but darkest gangster movie ever. Hilarious but sick (the original meaning) as f**k. Whoever came up with that is a pure genius. On Netflix, you won’t be disappointed, and Liam Neeson is the star.”

Someone else said: “Didn’t expect much from this, thought it would be another daft Liam Neeson action movie, but it’s definitely worth a watch, a kind of straight black comedy.”
Cold Pursuit holds a so-so 6.2 out of 10 on IMDB, and a 68 percent score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, where it also holds a slightly lower audience score of 49 percent.
A critics’ consensus on the site reads: “Cold Pursuit delivers the action audiences expect from a Liam Neeson thriller – along with humour and a sophisticated streak that make this an uncommonly effective remake.”
