The Reacher season 2 finale on Amazon Prime featured a song utilized in countless other television shows and movies since its release in the 1960s.
Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from the Reacher season 2 finale.
SUMMARY
Reacher season 2 finale ends with the familiar song “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane.
The song has been featured in various TV shows and films since its release in 1967, and Reacher is the latest project to utilize it.
“White Rabbit” is heard during a significant scene in episode 8, and while it fits well, the song has been overused in media.
Some songs are widely loved by television and film producers (as proven by how many times they are featured in different projects), and Reacher is the latest show to fall victim to being unable to resist the charms of one tune.
The series aired its season 2 finale in January 2024, and a scene in the last episode played a song that might have sounded familiar to viewers due to its repeated use in shows and movies. While it’s not a crime to include popular music in the action crime series, it continues a musical trend that has grown tiresome.
The Reacher season 2 ending featured Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher and the 110th Special Investigations Unit coming together for a final mission to put an end to the season-long mystery. Many people died, but Reacher and his team were able to get revenge for their friends and finally move on from the case that had plagued them throughout all eight episodes.
Amazon Prime Video already renewed the show for a third season, so Reacher will return to solve another mystery soon, and perhaps the upcoming season will showcase lesser-known (and utilized) songs.
Reacher Season 2 Is The Latest TV Show To Use “White Rabbit” By Jefferson Airplane
One of the songs featured in the Reacher season 2 finale was “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane, which has made numerous appearances in television shows and films since its release in June 1967. The tune was recorded for the band’s second studio album, Surrealistic Pillow, and was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Over the years, “White Rabbit” has been played during countless significant scenes on the big and small screen, and the Amazon Prime Video series is the latest project to use it.
Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” can be heard on a car stereo during the scene when Maria Sten’s Frances Neagley is at the gates of the New Age Facility toward the beginning of Reacher season 2, episode 8.
Of course, the producers chose this song for this specific scene because of the lyrics and meaning, as do many other shows and films. It’s difficult to deny that it’s a perfect fit for the moment in the action crime series, but “White Rabbit” has undoubtedly been overused since its release.
Notable Uses Of “White Rabbit” From Movie & TV History
Aside from Reacher, Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” has been incorporated into many popular shows and movies. Some of the most recognizable examples of the song’s use in television are the pilot episode of Stranger Things; The Handmaid’s Tale season 1, episode 8; The Sopranos season 1, episode 7; Big Little Lies season 1, episode 4; Supernatural season 2, episode 10; and Gotham season 4, episode 4.
“White Rabbit” has also been featured in films like Platoon, The Game, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Kong: Skull Island, and the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections.
