Amazon Prime Video’s wildly popular series Reacher has already been renewed for a third season, and there are plenty of exciting updates about the upcoming episodes.

Based on the series of novels by Lee Child, Reacher follows the eponymous character as he uses his years as a Military Investigator to solve high-profile cases after he has entered civilian life. Combining the wit and charm of the book series with plenty of exciting onscreen action, Prime Video’s show has already become one of its most popular productions.

Greeted with a heap of praise from critics, Reacher was especially applauded for its commitment to Lee Child’s book series (via Rotten Tomatoes). Besides its critical accolades, Reacher also proved to be a big draw for Prime Video, and the series was renewed for a second season even as other shows were canceled by the streamer.

Season 2 is expected to continue the positive trend for the Reacher series, but its success won’t have much bearing on the fate of season 3. In an unprecedented move, Reacher season 3 was given the green light even before season 2 debuted.

Reacher Season 3 Latest News

In the wake of the season 2 finale in January 2024, a heap of news has come regarding the third season, including which book Reacher season 3 will adapt.

After teasing that the third season would tackle one of Jack Reacher’s “solo stories”, it has now been revealed that season 3 will cover book 7, Persuader which was released in 2003. The story sees Reacher infiltrate a criminal organization to rescue an undercover agent.

In other news, it has now been confirmed that a major cast member will return for Reacher season 3, which somewhat contradicts the story of the book.

Fan-favorite character Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, will be back once again to team up with Reacher on his next explosive adventure. Neagley’s return is a deviation from the book series as her character is not involved with the story of Persuader.

Reacher Season 3 Is Confirmed

Unlike other shows which have to languish in uncertainty for months between seasons, Reacher season 3 was renewed before season 2 even debuted.

The unprecedented move from Prime Video is an illustration of the streamer’s faith in the popularity of its newest TV juggernaut, and season 3 is already in production to capitalize even more on the success. Reacher‘s fate beyond season 3 isn’t known yet, but Amazon may want to lock in more seasons sooner rather than later.

Reacher Season 3 Cast

Considering the anthology style of Reacher‘s stories, it isn’t easy to speculate who will appear in the cast of the third season.

Obviously, Alan Ritchson will reprise his role as the heavily muscled Reacher, and it has been confirmed that Maria Stern will return as Frances Neagley. The rest of the cast will probably be new, as each of Reacher’s adventures introduces new faces.

Alan Ritchson did address the possible return of Roscoe and Finlay, saying he favored bringing them back in the future. Willa Fitzgerald’s Roscoe Conklin was a fan-favorite love interest for Reacher in season 1, but she is not part of the cast of season 2.

Likewise, Reacher teamed up with Malcolm Goodwin’s Oscar Finlay during season 1’s adventure, but Finlay isn’t part of the ensemble of season 2.

Reacher Season 3 Story

After much speculation surrounding which of Lee Child’s novels would be the subject of season 3, series star Alan Richson finally put the issue to bed when he announced in January 2024 that Persuader would be the source.

The seventh Reacher book, Persuader follows the titular hero as he is enlisted to help bring down a powerful drug kingpin by infiltrating his operation. Meanwhile, Reacher is also tasked with rescuing an undercover DEA Agent who is deep within the organization and is quickly losing his cover.

Though each season has used the books as a jumping-off point, Reacher season 3 will not be following the novel to the letter, as evidenced by the return of Frances Neagley.

Reacher’s partner and confidant has been a part of every season thus far, and Stern is already confirmed to return in season 3, even though Neagley was not a character in Child’s Persuader.
