Reacher star Alan Ritchson has landed his next lead movie in Netflix’s War Machine.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, the upcoming action sci-fi film will follow a team of Army Rangers as they “encounter a threat beyond their imagination” during their final day navigating “the world’s toughest selection process” (via Deadline).

Hughes also wrote the script for War Machine alongside James Beaufort, who recently joined the cast of Australian soap opera Neighbours in the role of Felix Rodwell.

Further details, including Ritchson’s role in the film and other cast members, remain under wraps for the time being.

Elsewhere, Ritchson is set to reprise his role as the titular character in Reacher’s upcoming third season, which is currently filming in Maine.

The actor’s certified-fresh new movie Ordinary Angels is also set to premiere in the UK on April 26, following its release in the US last month.

Ordinary Angels stars Hilary Swank as Sharon Stevens, a recovering alcoholic who rallies a Kentucky community to help out widowed father Ed Schmitt (Ritchson) while his critically ill daughter waits for a liver transplant.

Ritchson will next be seen opposite Henry Cavill in upcoming action film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which follows a secret combat organisation founded by Winston Churchill during World War II.

Recently praising Cavill for leading the team during the filming process, Ritchson said: “Henry is a perfect number one. He is the first one there, last to leave, always knows his stuff, he’s always positive. He leads by example, I’m so impressed.”

Meanwhile, Cavill said that Ritchson is “wonderful to work with”, before teasing: “He does some seriously cool stuff in this movie.”
