The search for the next James Bond is still ongoing, with no clear frontrunner emerging among names like Cavill, Taylor-Johnson, and Elba.
Barbara Broccoli reveals that the process of reinventing Bond for the next chapter has not yet begun, despite successfully adapting the character for the 21st century.
While acknowledging the excitement of 007: Road to a Million , Broccoli emphasizes that their primary focus remains on producing traditional Bond films for the big screen.
James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently offered fans another update on the franchise’s future – but only to say that nothing has changed.
Although fans are desperate to know who will be the next star to take on the role of the British super-spy, Broccoli’s most recent update set them up for a much longer wait for news of the franchise’s return. Speaking at the BFI Fellowship event (via Deadline), Broccoli said:
There’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film…There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet .
Despite the two-year gap since No Time to Die, the hunt for the next Bond continues without a clear frontrunner.
Names like Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Idris Elba have been circulating as potential contenders for the coveted role.
However, Broccoli’s latest revelation suggests that the casting process may be further away than initially thought.
In a previous conversation with The Guardian, Broccoli revealed explained more about the process that the production team would be going through to reinvent James Bond for the next chapter.
She also pointed out how they had successfully adapted the character to fit the 21st-century hero mold during Daniel Craig’s tenure. Broccoli acknowledged that his portrayal allowed them to explore the emotional intricacies of the character, which resonated with audiences.
“I go back to GoldenEye when everyone was saying, ‘The cold war is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no need for Bond, the whole world’s at peace and now there’s no villains’ – and boy was that wrong! [With Craig, we] wanted to focus on what a 21st-century hero would look like.
Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character … and also the world was ready for it.
I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.”

James Bond Inspired Game Show Filled the 007 Gap
Prime Video007: Road to a Million is a reality show that draws inspiration from the James Bond franchise. The show stars acclaimed actor Brian Cox (Succession) and features contestants competing in teams of two.
Set against the backdrop of Bond locations like the Scottish Highlands, Venice, and Jamaica, this cinematic adventure challenges participants with a combination of physical obstacles and intellectual tests.
However, lurking in the shadows is the Controller, who takes delight in making the contestants’ journey increasingly difficult.
With the potential to win up to £1 million, the stakes are high, and the Controller’s watchful eyes ensure that nothing comes easy for the participants.
While Barbara Broccoli acknowledged the fun and excitement of 007: Road to a Million, she made it clear that their primary focus remains on the production of traditional Bond movies destined for the silver screen.
“Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie it takes our full attention for three or four years so that’s our focus. We make the Bond movies for the big theatrical screen and everything about the Bond movies is for audiences to see around the world on that format, so we’ve not wanted to do television.”
