Miley Cyrus may have been famous since she was a teen, but Liam Hemsworth had no idea who she was when they first met.
Hemsworth has explained that he had no idea how famous his co-star was when they met on the set of The Last Song.
Prior to filming the romantic adaptation, Cyrus had found huge international success appearing as Hannah Montana.
Cyrus and Hemsworth met in 2009 on the set of the Nicholas Sparks adaptation. Although the young actors weren’t looking for love during filming, sparks flew. Shortly after filming wrapped, the pair confirmed their romance with a PDA-filled trip through an airport.
It appears Cyrus and Hemsworth didn’t have a lot in common aside from a shared career. “That was really traumatizing,” Miley told Alexandra Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast in regard to the breakdown of her marriage.
Cyrus added, “It’s like a death when you lose a love that deep,” but she looked fondly on their time together, “The relationship that I had for 10 years was an amazing time in my life.”

Liam Hemsworth met his future ex-wife Miley Cyrus on the set of The Last Song, but he had no idea how big of a star she was before being cast.
“I grew up outside of Melbourne on an island that was connected to the mainland by a bridge. My brothers and I would surf and live on the beach,” the Australian actor explained.
“So when we started filming, every day I would have to walk through a crowd hanging around. I wondered why there would be so many people in front of Miley’s trailer and all these photographers on the beach.
When Miley stepped out of her trailer and everybody went wild, I began to realize that this girl must be something very special.”
Why Liam Hemsworth Almost Wasn’t Cast In The Last Song Opposite Miley Cyrus

During a 2019 interview with Today Liam Hemsworth revealed he almost didn’t get the part as Will Blakelee in The Last Song — the role that introduced him to his on/off partner of a decade.
“That was the first job I got [in the U.S.], and it was literally right at the end of my three-month visa,” Hemsworth explained. “They cast another kid, and it didn’t work out with him.”
It’s not working out with the other guy. You’ve got to go in and read with Miley again,’” Hemsworth explained.
“I come in and everyone starts clapping like, ‘We should have gone with you first!’ ” he added.
Harmsworth has previously explained how difficult he finds auditions. “It’s the hardest thing in the world. The part you hate about being an actor.
You basically walk into a room and you’re being judged. The statistics of how many jobs you get out of that is not too good.”

Liam Hemsworth may not have realized how famous Miley Cyrus was, but Hemsworth was smitten with the singer/actress. They were just 17 and 19 when they first met and fell in love on set.
Hemsworth has been honest about falling in love on set and the intimacy he felt with Cyrus throughout filming. “She makes me really happy,” he explained in a 2012 interview with Details magazine.
“When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone [in The Last Song] and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something”
“[Liam has] become my best friend in the whole wide world,” Miley Cyrus told Parade at the time. “I love him. He really respects me for who I am because coming from Australia, he really didn’t know me as the celebrity I am here.
I got to tell him about myself on my own terms and my own way. He had no preconceived notion of who I was supposed to be.”
In the 2010 Parade interview, Hemsworth explained one of the key things he had in common with his future wife, Miley Cyrus. “One of the things we have in common is that we don’t like to get caught up too much in the celebrity thing.
Personally, when I’m not working, I like to do as many things outside of the industry as I can, other things that make me happy. You kind of need to be grounded in something else besides just being an actor.”
“I think we’re both deeper than normal people — what they think and how they feel,” she said of her boyfriend and co-star in a 2010 interview with Teen Vogue. “He’s very grateful for what he has, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that, too.
