Eminem extends a heartfelt apology to his mother in the touching Mother’s Day music video “Headlights”!

Eminem re-cleans out his closet!

Eminem has teamed up with director Spike Lee and Fun frontman Nate Ruess to create “Headlights”, an apology in music video form to his estranged mother Debbie Mathers.

With pain in his voice, Eminem raps about how he regrets having released so many tracks dissing the way his mum brought him up, thanking her for being “my mom and my dad”.

The video is told first-person through the eyes of Debbie and spans Marshall Mathers’ childhood, taking in disastrous Christmases, her turn to drugs and alcohol and security guards blocking her from contacting her son later in life at his home.

It ends with the pair meeting up and and Eminem giving her a hug and a letter, the latter of which containing the lyrics to “Headlights”.

The first verse begins:

‘I went in headfirst / Never thinking about who what I said hurt, in what verse / My mom probably got it the worst / The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are / Did I take it too far? / “Cleaning Out My Closet” and all them other songs / But regardless I don’t hate you ’cause, Ma, / You’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my mom’

“It’s heartfelt — there’s some pain in it, but that’s life,” director Spike Lee said of the video, which has attracted over 2 million views in less than a day on YouTube.
