Evander Holyfield, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, has given his verdict on the potential fight between Mike Tyson and Anthony Joshua.
In an interview with The Sun, Holyfield said that he believes Tyson would win the fight if it were to happen.
“I think Tyson would win it,” Holyfield said. “He’s still explosive and he’s still got that power. Joshua is a big, strong guy, but he’s not as quick or as powerful as Tyson was in his prime.”
Holyfield also said that he believes Tyson’s experience would be a major factor in the fight.
“Tyson has been in the biggest fights of his life and he’s never backed down,” Holyfield said. “Joshua has only been in a couple of big fights and he’s lost them both. I think the pressure would get to him in a fight against Tyson.”
Tyson and Joshua have both expressed interest in fighting each other, but the fight has not yet been finalized.
Tyson, 54, is a former two-time heavyweight champion who is known for his ferocious punching power. He retired from boxing in 2005, but he made a comeback in 2020.
Joshua, 32, is the current unified heavyweight champion. He is one of the biggest and most powerful fighters in boxing history, but he has also been criticized for his lack of stamina and his susceptibility to being knocked out.
A fight between Tyson and Joshua would be one of the biggest boxing matches of all time. It would be a clash of styles and generations, and it would likely be a huge pay-per-view success.
It remains to be seen if the fight will ever happen, but Holyfield’s comments are sure to add fuel to the fire.
