In the early days of 2024, we got a report that the Forest County Potawatomi Community planned to build a $200 million concert venue near their hotel and casino in the Menomonee Valley. That permanent facility was supposed to break ground in 2025, but the Potawatomi aren’t waiting that long to host a concert on its site.
Snoop Dogg, the legendary rapper and recently announced sponsor of the Arizona Bowl, will step onto a temporary stage June 15 as the first show of the Potawatomi Amplified Concert Series. The performance — and two more later in the summer — will happen at a placeholder venue situated on a lot previously occupied by Cargill that can house almost 4,800 people.
Potawatomi Casino Hotel CEO Dominic Ortiz initially revealed the plans for a temporary setup at the end of February, and he had this to say in a release announcing the Snoop Dogg concert:
“This will be one of the most exciting summers the city has experienced, and we wanted to give the people of Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin one more reason to visit Potawatomi Casino. We are rolling out Potawatomi Amplified and the temporary venue to host three concerts, and we think people will be really excited when they hear the names we plan to announce.”
The remaining two will be revealed down the line, but for now we have the Snoop Dogg news to chew on. Since emerging as part of the West Coast scene in the early 1990s, the man born Calvin Broadus Jr. has collected almost as many business ventures as nicknames. Among his many entrepreneurial efforts are a cookbook, a wine called “Snoop Cali Red” and an esports league.
Even with all that on his plate, Snoop still squeezes in music now and then, including his 2022 album BODR under the revived Death Row Records. That same year, he said there were plans for another LP produced by Dr. Dre, who confirmed this past March that the project is in the works.
While we’re not sure if that album will drop before Snoop visits Milwaukee, we can say with near-certainty that tickets for the June 15 show will go on sale at noon Friday via the Potawatomi Casino Hotel website.
