(TNO) American rap star Snoop Dogg was arrested on charges of illegal marijuana possession and faces up to 180 days in prison.

(TNO) Snoop Dogg is currently in custody awaiting trial on charges of illegal marijuana possession on a bus frequented by the popular rapper on tour.

Over the weekend, when customs and security guards at the U.S.-Mexico border checkpoint in the Sierra Balanca, Texas, conducted a surprise search of Snoop Dogg’s bus, the dog found marijuana hidden in bottles and two boxes.

Bill Brooks, a spokesman for the patrol station, said Snoop Dogg immediately admitted the marijuana was his and was arrested shortly after.

Coincidentally, the patrol station where Snoop Dogg had just fallen into the net is the same place where country music star Willie Nelson, his close friend, was arrested in November 2010.

In 2008, Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg collaborated on the song My Medicine to call on the US government to legalize the use of this drug for medical purposes.

Snoop Dogg’s representatives have not confirmed the arrest. However, according to authorities in Texas, Snoop Dogg will appear in court on January 20. If convicted, the 40-year-old rapper faces up to 180 days in jail.

Over the past 10 years, Snoop Dogg, known as the “unruly son of hip-hop,” has been in constant trouble with the law for possessing and using illegal marijuana, cocaine, or weapons.
