Snoop says he’ll take LeBron giving the Lakers the scoring record and in-season championship.

Hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg is one of the true Los Angeles Lakers fans out there. Originally from Long Beach, California, Snoop has been supporting the Purple and Gold for as long as we can remember.

During his recent appearance on ‘The Stephen A. Smith Show,’ SAS asked the rapper if LeBron James had represented the Lakers well during his tenure in Hollywood, and Snoop responded with an affirmative answer.

“In the beginning, it was tough because the Clippers kept beating our a**, and Kawhi and them had the commercials, and they own the city. We had to listen to that sh** every year, but the Clippers still don’t have a ring, so nig*** still in the same spot y’all was in the last time we talked,” said Snoop.

LeBron delivered the ‘titles’ for the Lakers

According to Snoop, James’ tenure with the Purple and Gold has been tough because the moment he landed in L.A., the immediate expectation was to win an NBA title. That did not happen right away. When the Lakers finally won in 2020, the critics put an asterisk on it because it was a ‘bubble’ title.

Then, after LeBron led the Lakers to their 17th championship, the fans wanted more. Although the Purple and Gold have come up short every year since then, Snoop says that LBJ still delivered ‘other’ titles for the Lakers.

“And so he gives us the title, that he takes from Kareem – the scoring title. We can live with that. Then he gives us the little In-Season title. See, we’re taking all that sh** because everything matters,” he added.

Dogg says the Lakers need to upgrade

But while Snoop thinks LeBron has done enough in L.A., he believes the only way the Lakers can win a championship again is if they adapt to change. The rapper agreed with Stephen A. that the league has gotten much younger, and if the Purple and Gold want to compete, they must upgrade.

“They got to get some young dogs to match that. That’s the only way you can get it is to match that. The league is a young league now. It’s moving forward, it’s fast, it’s shooters, it’s defenders, it’s leapers, it’s camaraderie, like them young boys, they play together,” Snoop explained.

LeBron’s Lakers gave the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, a good fight in their first-round playoff series but still lost 4-1. Los Angeles has since fired the entire coaching staff, but if the Purple and Gold really want another run at a title with Bron still there, they need to make player moves—again.
