The legendary rapper believes Thompson can be a good fit for the Purple and Gold.

With the LA Lakers being eliminated twice in two seasons by the same team, it is hard for their fanbase to be optimistic about their future prospects, considering the kind of leap they must make to become top championship contenders.

However, for a fan like Snoop Dogg, he is hoping for the Purple and Gold to acquire Klay Thompson as he feels he doesn’t fit in the Warriors team but can be an incredible asset for the Lakers, given his 3-point shooting prowess.

“I’m hopeful that we can get us a Klay Thompson. His daddy is Michael, he runs for the Lakers, it’s an easy transit down the road. I mean, he doesn’t fit with them anymore,” Dogg said on The Stephen A Smith Show. “They’re trying to minimize him. He needs to be on a team where he wide open, and we love getting him that look.”

Is Klay a good option for the Lakers?

In the 2023-24 season, the Lakers collectively shot 37.7% from beyond the arc, while Klay, who faced criticism for what was perceived as underperformance with the Dubs, maintained a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.7%. While it’s evident that the five-time All-Star may no longer thrive in a fast-paced offense, his ability to enhance any team’s 3-point shooting is undeniable.

Moreover, Thompson’s willingness to embrace a bench role with the Warriors further enhances his appeal as a potential asset for the 2020 NBA Champs, especially if they aim to bolster their bench strength.

Conversely, the Lakers should be cautious not to replicate their previous error of signing players in their mid-30s. Purple and Gold certainly should shift their focus towards procuring younger athletes who excel in both offensive and defensive ends and can play in a high-tempo game. With previous experiments involving veterans such as Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook failing to deliver desired outcomes off the bench, the Lakers are aware of the need for a different approach moving forward.

Rivers suggested a different destination

While Snoop Dogg advocated for Klay’s compatibility with the Lakers’ offensive scheme, Austin Rivers believed the 6’6″ shooting guard would be an ideal addition to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The former Clippers guard believes Thompson’s championship-winning experience could prove invaluable in enhancing Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey and helping the team reach deeper in the playoffs.

As the Warriors desperately need to change their strategy to become championship contenders in the 2024-25 season, the spotlight inevitably falls on Thompson. With other teams poised to match their offers, the question looms – will Klay be open to exploring opportunities beyond the Bay Area? After clinching four championships alongside Draymond and Steph, it is surely one of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on.
