Snoop trusts that Lakers mangament will pick the right head coach for the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Darvin Ham shortly after they were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Since then, arguments for and against Ham’s firing have been made, with both camps having valid points.

Rap superstar Snoop Dogg, a long-time Lakers fan and Long Beach native, doesn’t think the Lakers’ failure this season was Ham’s fault. However, team management has the duty to find the right coach for the team.

“I don’t think it was his fault,” said Snoop on The Stephen A. Show. “But at the same time, the organization…I trust in Jeanie. I know she does what’s best for the organization and at the end of the day, that’s what the results have got to be. We used to winning championships. We not used to being knocked out in the first round, barely getting in the playoffs. Like it’s a certain level of attention and detail that we have when it comes to the Lakers. And as fans, we really depend on her and them to make the right moves. And no championship, no job.”

The Lakers  got to playoffs through the Play-In

To Snoop’s point, the LA squad barely made the playoffs during Darvin’s two seasons as Lakers head coach. Although they made an impressive run to the Western Conference Finals last season, the Purple and Gold were a mediocre 43-39 team during the 2022-23 season and had to earn their playoff spot via the play-in tournament.

The Lakers stuck with the core that brought them playoff success last season. However, the team didn’t do any better during the current campaign. Although they won 4 more games at 47, the Lake Show only had the 7th-best record in the West, and once again, they had to go through the play-in to advance. According to Snoop, it’s time that the Lakers get younger.

“That’s why I think that bringing in the right coach who knows how to go find that young talent. This league is young, it’s always been a young league. The veterans could get it to a certain level, then there’s always a young somebody or young team that come and knock them off, and this year, it’s going to be a bunch of young teams playing for that chip because in the West, it’s set up like that already. All of them teams over there is young.” added Snoop Dogg.

The coach should be able to handle LeBron

But while Snoop believes that the ideal next coach is the one who can get the young talent to Los Angeles, former New York Knicks great Patrick Ewing thinks that the next Lakers head coach should be someone who can handle LeBron James.

“I mean, that’s going to be hard to say, you know. You have an agent superstar in Lebron; AD is a talented player; you don’t know if he’s going to be playing or not playing based on his history. They have some guys that are that are young but talented. It’s going to have to be a person who is going to have to be able to handle LeBron. LeBron has to give his okay to,” the Hall of Famer said on a recent episode of The Mark Jackson Show.

Right now, the Lakers coaching job is a big question mark. Rumors say that the favorites to land the job are Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego, JJ Redick, and Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori.

Former Lakers head coach Byron Scott has even suggested making LeBron the playing coach. Regardless of who they pick, the pressure that was on Ham and Frank Vogel will always be there, As Snoop said, ‘No title, no job.’
