In 2023, Liam Neeson expanded his thriller catalogue with an appearance in In The Land of Saints.
The actor is best known for his roles in past movies like Schindler’s List, Love Actually, Taken and the second Star Wars trilogy. This latest movie wasn’t expected to make such a huge impact but has soared to the top of Netflix’s charts this week.
In The Land Of Saints And Sinners is an Irish thriller directed by Robert Lorenz. The story follows Neeson’s retired hitman who returns to his day job when an IRA terrorist arrives in his small village.
The movie made a modest splash when it premiered in 2023, but following its arrival on Netflix in mid-April, it has performed impressively. Currently, In The Land Of Saints And Sinners is at number one, ahead of neighbouring top ten entrants, including Jurassic World: Dominion, Forrest Gump and Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver.
Neeson is undoubtedly a significant lure for audiences, but he is also joined by the acting prowess of Kerry Condon, famed for her role in Banshees of Inisherin, Jack Gleeson of Game of Thrones fame, Colm Meaney and Ciarán Hinds.
Robert Lorenz is no beginner, either. The American director and producer is best known for his collaborations with Clint Eastwood, with whom he worked on the Oscar-nominated titles Mystic River, Letters from Iwo Jima, and American Sniper. He also directed Trouble with the Curve and The Marksman.
Elsewhere, Neeson announced in Febrary that he would star in a reboot of the classic crime-spoof comedy The Naked Gun. The original movies aired through the late 1980s and early ‘90s, starring the late Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin alongside Priscilla Presley and OJ Simpson.
In the Naked Gun reboot, Neeson is set to portray Drebin’s son. When announcing the rare comedy role, Neeson admitted that “it’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction.”
Akiva Schaffer is set to direct, with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane taking on production duties. Neeson and MacFarlane previously worked together on 2014’s A Million Ways to Die in the West.
Currently, The Naked Gun is scheduled for release on July 18th, 2025, as confirmed on Paramount’s release calendar.
