Eminem has announced his new single, and it’ll apparently see him pull off an awe-inspiring magic trick.
The Detroit rap legend is preparing to release his new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) this summer and will kickstart the rollout with the lead single “Houdini” this Friday (May 31).
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday (May 28), Eminem revealed the title and release date for the song while also sharing an outlandish video call with famed magician David Blaine.
“David, what up man? Yo listen, I need your help with something,” Em says on the call, to which Blaine replies: “Yeah, whatever you need.”
Eminem continues: “Well, first of all, you know you the greatest to ever do it, right? So, what I was wondering is like, how far can we go with this magic. Like, can we do like a stunt or something?”
“You mean something like this?” Blaine says before downing a glass of wine and eating the glass, shocking onlookers around him.
An unfazed Eminem then says: “Well, for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear.”
He added in the caption: “Please do not try this at home. Or anywhere else.”
Eminem announced The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in April and teased a summer release.
A teaser trailer for the project dropped shortly after his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in his hometown of Detroit and took on the form of a true crime show.
In the clip, a reporter discusses Eminem’s controversial alter ego, Slim Shady, and says: “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
50 Cent also makes a cameo appearance and says: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”
The reporter then says: “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem pops up at the end of the clip as a blurred talking head and says: “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Em shared a video earlier this month teasing a May 31 release, so fans have been expecting something to arrive this week.
